Upper Cervical Chiropractic Is a Natural Treatment for Hip Pain

What is Hip Pain?

Hip pain is an umbrella term for an assortment of painful conditions affecting the hip joint and its surrounding muscles, tendons, and cartilage. Common causes of hip pain include hip fractures, tendinitis, arthritis, and vertebral injuries along the upper cervical spine.

Signs and Symptoms of Hip Pain

The symptoms of hip pain will vary significantly depending on the root cause of the condition. Common symptoms include dull or sharp pain along the thighs, inside the hip, around the groin, or around the buttocks. This pain may get worse or radiate to new areas during a particular activity or when seated/standing in a particular position.

How the Upper Cervical Spine Affects Hip Pain

Despite being the topmost segment of the spinal column, the upper cervical spine plays a major role in supporting the musculoskeletal structures of the lower back, legs, and hip. As a result, a vertebral misalignment in this region of the spine can wreak havoc on the stabilizing muscles of the lower back and hip. If the misalignment is left untreated, a persistent imbalance can develop in the hip joint, leading to strained muscles, torn cartilage, and inflamed tendons.

How Our Upper Cervical Spine Treatment for Hip Pain Works

Dr. Gordon Elder, our in-house chiropractic specialist, is an expert practitioner of the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Technique. Using this technique, Dr. Elder aims to treat hip pain at the root cause, correcting misalignments in the upper cervical spine and kick-starting the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

Dr. Elder’s program for treating hip pain begins with a 25-30-minute consultation. During this initial session, you’ll discuss your symptoms and spinal health with Dr. Elder. To determine whether your hip pain is linked to a vertebral injury in the upper cervical spine, Dr. Elder may use advanced 3-D imaging tools to scan your spinal column and pinpoint any misaligned vertebrae. Afterwards, you’ll be given a comprehensive report on your spinal health. You’ll also have an opportunity to discuss treatment options and ask Dr. Elder any questions you might have.

If a misalignment is detected, Dr. Elder will correct the affected vertebrae using low-force, non-invasive Blair chiropractic correction techniques. By restoring alignment to the upper cervical spine, Dr. Elder aims to alleviate a key source of instability and tension upon the hip joint.

Note, while you may experience rapid symptom relief after your first session, we advise that first-time patients return for regular check-ups (for at least 3-5 months) with Dr. Elder to ensure their adjustment has set. Most patients average between 10 and 15 appointments with Dr. Elder to achieve long-lasting/permanent results.
