Can Upper Cervical Chiropractic Treat Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of pain in the heels. If not treated, the pain can become so severe that it may hinder your ability to go about your daily activities on your feet.

You may think that the problem with plantar fasciitis is only in your foot, but would you believe that often the root of the problem is in the upper cervical spine?

Causes and Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

On the bottom of each foot, there is a thick band of tissue called the plantar fascia. This tissue connects the toes to the heel. When it becomes inflamed, it can cause bouts of extreme pain.

Plantar fasciitis pain is usually sharp or stabbing and may come and go throughout the day. It is commonly felt when first standing up and walking after you've been sitting or lying down for a while, or when you've been on your feet for long periods.

Plantar fasciitis is a common problem that may be caused by physical activities (such as running) or working on one's feet for long hours. It can also occur due to flat feet, excess weight, or age.

How the Upper Cervical Spine's Health Relates to Plantar Fasciitis

When the upper cervical spine is misaligned, it causes a domino-like effect down the rest of the body. The upper cervical spine is the uppermost part of the spine that runs through the neck, and it is the most vulnerable to misalignments. When there is a misalignment, the body attempts to compensate by shifting so that we can remain upright and hold up our heads.

The compensation is usually something we do unconsciously and don't notice, but it comes at a cost. Shifting the posture causes excess pressure to be exerted on other joints,  muscles, tendons, and ligaments going down the rest of the body, causing problems to arise down to the feet for some people.

If the root cause of Plantar fasciitis is a misalignment of the upper spine, then the root cause will need to be treated if you want your foot to heal successfully.
